Anti-Bullying Week 2021
Today, we brought all of our learning together and created some posters using this years slogan, 'One Kind Word'.
We tried to make the posters as bright and colourful as possible as well as sending a message of kindness to anyone who sees them!

Illusion Art
Inspired by the ‘lenticular prints’ of Luz Perez Ojeda, the children in year 4 carefully cut two images into strips and by alternating them side by side, in sequential order, and then folding, they have created an optical illusion piece of art!!

Times Tables
Year 4 loved playing our times tables board games. This is a great way to have fun while learning.

ARTS WEEK
This week has been Health and Well-being week and Arts week. In Art, we have been practicing Art and Design skills. We have created an optical illusion inspired by the ‘lenticular prints’ of Luz Perez Ojeda. The children have also designed their own willow pattern style plates based on a tale of their choice, first drawing three key characters, then going over the details with ink, before finally using a wash in lighter tones of blue.
In music, last term we learned the song 'Blackbird' by The Beatles. We found the 'pulse' of the song and then sang it.

Angles and Turns
We have recently been learning about angles and turns. In order to understand anti-clock wise and clockwise turning along with 1/2 turns, 1/4 turns and 3/4 turns, we played a game of Simon says on the playground. If you turned the wrong way or turned too much or too little you were out!
The children had a great time learning outside!

J. M. W Turner
Today, we continued our Art topic by evaluating some of William Turner's work. We transformed our classroom into a Art gallery and walked around discussing his work with our class mates. After this, we all had a discussion about how the paintings made us feel.

WORLD BOOK DAY
For World Book Day, we focussed on a book called 'Dreamer' by Brian Moses and Bee Willey.
The book had a lot of really interesting and important themes that we discussed in class. As a class, we decided to focus on one theme - Whaling. We researched 'Whaling' and what it meant as well as looking into past and present events around this subject.
We discussed the features of a newspaper report and then wrote our own report about 'Whaling'. As well as the reports, we decided to create our own Moari Whale art which links to a English unit that we have just finished.

Kapa Haka
As part of our English topic, we have been looking at the story 'Whale Rider' which is a Maori tale. Because of this, we have been researching Maori culture and traditions.
One of the main traditions in Maori culture is the 'Haka', made famous by the 'All Blacks' rugby team. We have attempted to create our own version. Here it is!
Lockdown Time Tables Board Games

CUP STRING PHONES
Today, year 4 made cup string phones. They explained how the sound travels from their mouth through the bottom of the cup, along the string and into the opposing cup. Ask your child to tell you about how they made them and what challenges they completed!

Year 4 and 5 DT Workshop
We had a fantasic time exploring our skills for design and engineering through our DT experience day. The children learnt about motors, gears, pulleys, levers and sensors by creating a motorised lock to control water levels with sensors and their own robotic alligators which move in response to motion.

PATHS
In our Paths lessons, Year 4 have been exploring peer pressure. We've been given a number of scenarios that we may find ourselves in one day and discussed how we could resolve them. The children had lots of great ideas and tried to solve their problems by doing the right thing but also trying not to fall out with their friends.

Thank you to our Y4 students who have led an assembly for KS2 about Diwali. They have been studying the Hindu religion this half term to find an answer to 'What might a Hindu learn from celebrating Diwali?'

Roman Trip to Chester
On Thursday, we went to the old Roman fortress of Dewa (Chester). After a morning of fact finding, archaeology work, and dressing up as Romans, we headed outside to the old Roman walls. We each had a Roman shield and were taught different formations that the Roman army would form and what their equipment was called. Mr Leather and Mrs Bradbury were turned into gladiators and had a fight but our Roman leader ended up executing Theo. It was a great day and we all can’t believe that we live so close to the Roman Fortress of Dewa.

EGGciting EGGsperiment
This week Y4 have been looking at how to take care of their teeth and the effects of tooth decay. We placed 6 hard-bolied eggs in a variety of liquids to see what effect they would have over the course of a week.
To make it a fair test, the children checked that we were using the same sized jug with the same amount of liquid, made sure that the eggs were exactly the same size and weight and were placed into the liquid at the same time.
The children were given oppurtunity to predict what effects the liquid would have on the egg and also made observations throughout the week.
As you can see in our pictures, the results were pretty interesting. We have decided that fizzy drinks should be banned forever!

Year 4 Class Assembly
Today the Year 4 children delievered an amazing performance in their class assembly. They spoke loudly and clearly and sang beautifully. A brillaint showcase of all their learning.
YEAR 3 AND 4 SCIENCE WORKSHOPS

The year 3 and 4 children had lots of fun in their science workshops this week. They have been creating their own digestive systems and making lava lamps; which has helped them develop their understanding of the human body and the properties of materials. Lots of fantstic results through their hard work!
The James Roby 'Tag' Rugby festival.

Some Children were selected today to represent Lyme at the James Roby 'Tag' Rugby trophy at Newton Storm RLFC. Team Lyme did us proud scoring lots of tries and making some fantastic tackles. The children then got to meet St.Helens rugby legend James Roby and Saints Mascot Boots. Great team work Lyme!

The Water Cycle
As part of our Geography topic, the water cycle, we have been learning about where water comes from, how it gets to our homes and school and why we can drink it straight from the tap. We found out that most of our water comes from reservoirs which can be dirty and definitely not drinkable.
Year 4 were challenged to filter a beaker of dirty water and make it as clean as possible using a variety of utensils. They all really enjoyed getting messy and unbelievably managed to keep most of the water in their beakers!

At the beginning of this term Y4 went to the Museum of Liverpool to discover how Liverpool became one of the world’s great ports and how this shaped the city of today. Pupils explored the trade goods wall to identify examples of imports and exports to and from Liverpool.
An important part of the trip involved exploring the significance of the River Mersey to Liverpool and the city’s geographic location. The growth of Liverpool’s docks was explored as a whole class timeline activity.
The children thoroughly enjoyed the day and were intrigued to find out just how important the North-West is and was to the rest of the world.

Over the past couple of weeks, Y4 have been carefully learning about how sound is made, how sound travels, how a string telephone works and what the pitch of a sound is.
We carried out a few experiments. We investigated how string telephones work and then how we could change the pitch of a sound using straw trumpets.
Katie Y4 - "It was fun using the string telephones. I found out that the sound travelled better when the string was pulled tight. I think it was because the string was easier to vibrate when it was straight."
Harley W Y4 - "Making the straw trumpets (or Strumpets!) was really funny because every time you cut the straw and made it shorter, the sound got higher and higher."
