Arts Week in Year 1

Sea of Dreams

What an exciting a creative week we have had in Year 1 to celebrate Arts Week!

Linked to the story Sea of dreams by Dennis Nolan, the children have all created their own colour wash paintings inspired by the sea. They mixed their own colours and made them darker using black and lighter using white. After completing their masterpiece, the children used exciting adjectives to put a title to the painting. Finally we all drew amazing mermaids and added colour using pastels, and texture using sequins and glitter. We are all extremely proud of our artwork and showed it off in the Art Gallery for parents to take a look!

Mrs Lawrenson also lead a drama session linked to the story. We worked in small groups to act out the story, retelling it in order using our bodies and actions. Facial expressions were also used to add feeling and mood.

Our dance session was amazing with Begum our dance teacher, and we all put a series of dance moves to the music from the story video.

As the story is told using pictures alone, we showed off our creative talents in writing, by adding a narrative to the book. Again, we used exciting adjectives to make it more interesting for the reader. We have all loved the exciting work we have done around Sea of Dreams, with more activities planned in the coming weeks...watch this space!
