On Friday, Year 3 were lucky enough to be asked to plant trees in our school field. The Mersey Forest organisation and one of St Helens Park Rangers came to help us. We planted many saplings which will grow to help our environment.

Year 3 looked at the famous artist Claude Monet. We found out lots of interesting facts and then created our own version of Monet's garden using finger prints and a range of colours. We produced some very effective pieces of art.
What did the Greeks do for us?

To introduce the start of our Learning Challenge 'What did the Ancient Greeks do for us?' we held our very own Greek day. The children came in dressed as Ancient Greeks and throughout the day we had lots of Greek activities. To start the day we learnt the Greek alphabet, made a Greek crown and then had our very own Greek Olympics. To end the day the children tasted some Greek food. Here are some photos from the day.

There were some fanatstic performances from our Year 3 children on our sports day and the team spirit they showed was fanatstic! Thank you to all our parents for their support!

Year 3 had a fantastic time today looking at different plants in the local area with Scott the Ranger. We learnt some new plant names and how plants spread through seed dispersal.

The Year 3 children enjoyed trying a variety of Mediterranean foods last week from Brioche from France and Chorizo from Spain to Ricotta cheese from Italy. They loved tasting and describing all the different foods, though they weren't so sure about the olives!

As a 'Final Ta Dah' to our LCC on the Stone Age the children made stewed fruit as they would have eaten at that time. They used lots of lovely berries, nuts and honey and then wrote instructions on how to make it. Most of them thoroughly enjoyed it; others were not so sure as seen in the pictures below!

Year 3 had a fantastic time when the 'Chef Academy' visited our school. They showed lots of enthusiasm and their cooking skills were fabulous! They made sweet chilli noodles which looked delicious and I am sure they tasted it too!

Year 3 had an absolutely fantastic time when Clud came in to see us for our Stone Age day. They took part in lots of fun activities and games and learnt so many interesting facts. They got to hold a tooth of a woolly mammoth (which was the size of an ipad!) and feel some reindeer fur as well as learning how to make fire. The children all looked fantastic, a big thank you to all the parents for producing some great costumes.

Year 3 thoroughly enjoyed erupting their volcanoes on Wednesday with some fantastic results! Some children even went and had another go at home! All the children have loved this Natural Disasters Learning Challenge and especially the exploding finale!

The Year 3 children have been busy making volcanoes as part of our Learning Challenge on Natural Disasters. They will be erupting them later in the week so look out for the videos!

The children in Year 3 had a fantastic time practising their estimation skills. These skills are so important for maths; to help them identify errors and make sensible guesses about what calculations will equal. The children worked in teams to estimate a variety of things; from letters on a page to pockets in the class. They showed an excellent understanding and used some fantastic strategies!

We had a fantastic time on our Ancient Greek day.
The children took part in lots of activities such as making Greek headressess, writing their name in Greek letters, creating their own mosaics, tasting some Greek food and taking part in an Ancient Greek Olympics.

Y5 children have been busy making Maths Board Games for the Y3 children in the past week.
Keibhy Powell in Y5 said, " First we looked at different types of board games which gave us inspiration and ideas for our own. We then planned our board games in our books and wrote down the instructions. After that, we looked at the Y3 maths curriculum and this was how we found out questions to ask the children. We then made it in real-life and made 3d touches to them to make them look more appealing."
Joel Thompson in Y3 said, "I really enjoyed the board games. They are really fun and no one is playing unfairly. I've been learning a lot of things like 6 X 50 is 300 and it was easy to work out!"
The children have all worked very hard and had a great time this morning.

Y3 and Y4 have enjoyed taking part in the Yoga Bananas technique yoga sessions this Autumn half term. They have been learning about the different yoga asanas (poses) and breathing techniques through story, songs, games, partner activities and relaxation activities. They practiced using all they had learnt in the last session completing the Yoga Olympic Games.
