Circles and Triangles in Reception

In maths, we have been learning all about circles and triangles. We went on a shape hunt around school, made shape pictures and drew our own circle pictures inspired by Kandinsky's Concentric Circles artwork.

Sean Perkins author visit

Year Two thoroughly enjoyed their visit from Sean Perkins, the author of Oscar and Ben. Sean read the children his latest book and taught them a song on his guitar. Sean's books are available to order online if you would like to know more. 

Nursery Autumn Walk

Nursery put on our wellies and enjoyed an Autumn walk following our story, 'The Leaf Thief'. We noticed signs of Autumn and found lots of interesting, natural items such as leaves of different colours, shapes and sizes, pine cones, mushrooms and red berries. We explored the woodland area, collected our own leaves, and back in Nursery we made our own collage pictures. 

Reception Autumn Walk

We read the story 'Leaf Man' by Lois Ehlert.  Then we went on an autumn walk on the field.  We collected lots of leaves and other natural materials and brought them back to class.  We used these materials to make our own Leaf Man.

Reception Pumpkin Soup

Y4 Autumn 1 Learning

Sea Cadets

PO Ratcliffe and Sergeant Ratcliffe from Newton Le Willows Sea Cadets visited us this week. They talked all about what is on offer at Sea Cadets which starts from age 9. They also collected the beautiful poppy display created by Mrs. Houghton and Mrs. Meakin with the children in our after school club - this will go on display as part of the Community Poppy Appeal. 

Young Carers Awareness Day

This week our children have been involved in some workshops with Tanya and Sophie from Young Carers. They led an assembly about the role of a young carer and then delivered a workshop in each class from Year 1 to Year 6 about how we care for each other. As the Mayor, Councillor Jeanette Banks, has nominated Young Carers as her charity this year, she joined us to talk about the importance of the work of this charity.

Harvest Festival

Today, Reverend Chris came into school to lead an assembly - all about Harvest Festival.

We have also collected items as part of our Harvest Festival - these donations will be delivered to our local foodbank so that people in our community can benefit.

World Mental Heath Day

This week Mrs. Reid led an assembly about the importance of looking after our mental health. We all took part in 'Yellow Day' to think about this and to raise money for Young Minds - a charity which supports children and young people. Thank you for your donations - £168 was sent to support this much needed cause. 

Student Council visit to the Town Hall

Miss. Evans and Mrs. Squires took our Student Council to the Town Hall this week to find out more about St. Helens, the local history of the area and the role of the council. They met the Mayor and enjoyed cakes in the parkour and a tour of the building. The feedback from the children was very positive - the particularly liked finding out more about where they live and getting to sign a special book in that 'will be there forever'!

Reception-Our Families

We have been finding out all about ourselves and our families. We talked about who's in our families.  Then we used the pebbles to make our own families.

Our Early Days in Reception

We have now nearly completed our first half term in Reception.  We have enjoyed exploring our environment, made new friends, got to know our teachers and taken part in lots of different activities inside and outside.  

Y6 Football Tournament

MacMillan Bake Sale

Our fantasic Lyme community raised £300 for Macmillan by holding a Bake Sale and a raffle. 

Rights-Respecting Ambassadors Assembly- September

The ambassadors led an assembly this week to promote their role and about article 12: the right to be listened to. 

Judo assembly

Anthony delivered an assembly to promote his Judo Club and encourage the children to join our after school clubs after the holidays. 

Road Safety workshop

Mel from the Road Safety Team came to deliver an assembly to the whole school on how to stay safe near the roads. 

AUTUMN TERM 1 - After School Clubs

Y4 - The Hummingbird Project

Today, Year 4 met Ian from The Hummingbird Project.

Over the next few weeks the children will be working on a project - all about learning ways to feel happier.

The sessions will consist of:-
* Feeling happy
* Being kind and thoughtful
* Slowing down
* What makes you mentally strong
* Feeling good about the future
* Where to find help if you are feeling unhappy

The session finished with a mindfulness activity - remembering your happy place.

The challenge for the week is - think about the three favourite things that make you happy. 

Y6 vs Staff Football Match.

To mark the Euros this year, the year 6 children took on some of the staff in our own football match. England might not have brought the cup home but the staff certainly did. 

Our Last Day At Lyme

We all had so much fun on our last day. The children all enjoyed a BBQ and the ice cream van. We finished the day off with the biggest water fight ever.  Good luck at high school. We will miss you all. 

Y5's Class assembly

Y5 shared their knowledge of the Ancient Greeks in this morning's assembly. The audience enjoyed 'Greeks have got talent' and learned many facts about this point in world history. The children performed brilliantly, all remembering their lines and speaking clearly and confidently. 

Y6 performance

Our Y6 class were absolutely AMAZING in all their performances this week. The audience were treated to excellent acting, singing, dancing and comedy sketches. What was so lovely to see was the confidence of all the children in playing their individual parts and how their talents shone through. Definitely some stage stars of the future!!
