We read the book Dreamer by Brian Moses. We then thought about different ways that we could look after our planet. We decided that we shouldn’t throw litter, we shouldn’t waste water or electricity. We are going to try hard to remember to put our rubbish in the bin, to recycle, to turn off the tap when we are brushing our teeth and to turn off lights.
We then turned junk into other useful things. We made pencil pot holders from toilet roll tubes and used different plastic containers to make some plant pots. We also made some dreamcatchers.
Some of our friends at home looked at their favourite books, created new characters and made their own book.

The Foundation Stage children are working hard at home and in school. Here is a selection of some of their work.
Why do Christians have advent calendars?
Date: 11th Dec 2020 @ 4:04pm
Today we retold the story of the first Christmas to check that we remembered it from last week! We used puppets to help us.
Then we talked about why Christians use advent calendars to count down to Christmas Day – to celebrate Jesus’ birthday.
We made our own advent calendar by drawing pictures from the nativity story and things that people do to celebrate Christmas. We used our phonics and finger spaces to write a sentence with our picture and wrote a number between 1 and 24 on the front.
At the end of the day we ordered the numbers and said that people would be getting more excited the nearer to the 24th it gets!
Date: 7th Dec 2020 @ 8:51am
Today we have talked about why Christians celebrate Christmas. We listened to the story of the first Christmas and used actions to help us. Then we acted it out using puppets.
In small groups we cut out pictures from the story, put them in order and then told Mrs. Roberts what happened at the beginning, the middle and the end.
We showed that we remembered it by retelling it to Nursery in the afternoon. Then we listened to another story – Jesus’ Christmas Party.
We know that Christians celebrate Christmas because it was when Jesus was born.
Date: 4th Dec 2020 @ 10:51am
Christmas has arrived. We have turned our summer house into Santa’s Grotto. The children can’t wait to be Santa’s helpers on Monday. Here are some of our other Christmas activities so far.

Today we shared our knowledge about Ramadan from last week – we had remembered a lot! We talked about the end of Ramadan being called Eid al-Fitr (the festival of the breaking of the fast). Then watched a video of a family celebrating Eid: they wear special clothes, visit the Mosque, read the Qu’ran, say prayers, have food with family and friends and share gifts.
At snack time we tried dates and fig rolls – these are foods which Muslims eat at the end of Ramadan to mark the end of fasting. We talked about how this might feel.
We all made star and moon decorations and wrote down what our good deed would be.
Why do Muslims celebrate Ramadan?
Date: 20th Nov 2020 @ 4:24pm
Today we have talked about another festival - Ramadan. We found out that Muslims do special things during this time: they fast (do not eat) in daylight hours, they pray 5 times a day and they do good deeds. We listened to a story about Rameena who opened her Ramadan calendar – the message said she should do something to help someone else. She helped her neighbour to tidy the garden, washed the dishes at the community centre and shared food with a friend.
Muslims decorate their homes at this time – we made lanterns and decorated them.
We know that at the end of Ramadan, Muslims celebrate another festival – Eid.
Date: 20th Nov 2020 @ 2:29pm
We found out all about the number 8. We counted lots of objects to 8, we made spiders with 8 legs, 8 spots and 8 eyes. We used Numicon to explore different ways to make 8. We found out that an 8 sided shape is called an octagon and we made our own octagons using lolly sticks.
Date: 16th Nov 2020 @ 8:37am
Today we have decorated our Diya lamps to make them sparkle for Diwali – it is called the festival of light. We will try and remember to turn our candles on tomorrow (Saturday 14th November) and think about people who will be celebrating.
We used the FANTASTICS to describe sights, sounds, feelings and what people might be saying at this time.
Date: 6th Nov 2020 @ 3:20pm
Today thought about the story of Rama and Sita and why Hindus celebrate Diwali – we had remembered it all from before the holidays!
We watched a video about a Hindu family and what they do in their house at Diwali. We found out that they wear new clothes, give presents and invite family and friends around for a special meal. Hindus also decorate their homes with lights and Rangoli patterns. They might have fireworks displays because it is called ‘the festival of light’.
Using clay, we made Diya lamps – we talked about how the clay felt and how to use our hands and fingers to mould the clay, then we used a tool to make patterns.
Then we made Rangoli patterns using chalk. We thought about the number 6: we drew 6 petals on the flower and used 6 colours to decorate it.
Date: 16th Oct 2020 @ 4:31pm
In RE this we week we talked about the Hindu festival of Diwali. We listened to the story of Rama and Sita, made our own puppets and retold the story. We know that Hindus celebrate Rama rescuing Sita from the evil Ravanna.
Date: 16th Oct 2020 @ 2:25pm
After reading the story The Little Red Hen we made our own bread. It was delicious!
Date: 13th Oct 2020 @ 8:51am
In RE, our BIG question for the year is: Why are some things special?
We have been talking about Harvest Festival and how Christians thank God for food and the world. On Friday, we went on a walk around school to find natural objects. We used them to make our own art work.
Date: 2nd Oct 2020 @ 10:32am
The children are enjoying developing their fine motor skills during our Funky Fingers sessions.
Date: 2nd Oct 2020 @ 9:42am
We had lots of fun making shape pictures using circles and triangles. Can you guess what we made?
Foundation Stage's Easter Bonnet Parade (from afar!)
Date: 10th Apr 2020 @ 2:35pm
A huge well done and thank you to all the children who made an Easter Bonnet and sent us their pictures!
After (very little deliberation) we decided that they were all so fantastic that everyone should get a prize! We will work on getting these to you next week.
Stay safe and have a great weekend everyone.
Date: 10th Mar 2020 @ 3:59pm
A huge thank you to everyone who came and took advantage of our Breakfast with Books mornings in Foundation Stage!! If you found it helpful and would like us to do something similiar again please let us know!
Date: 5th Mar 2020 @ 2:26pm
We looked at the book ‘Once Upon a Time..’ by Nick Sharratt. We were able to change the story by choosing where the princess lived, what kind of pet she had and what she wished for when a witch granted her three wishes.
We also talked about what the children would wish for. Here are some of their ideas:-
a castle
a unicorn
a really fast car
a trampoline
a brand new scooter
Peppa pig
a horse
Tasting Coconut and our new Chalkboard Wall
Date: 2nd Mar 2020 @ 4:09pm
We had a coconut in our Curiosity Cube last week, and enjoyed learning about where they come from. We opened it up (with help from a hammer!) and tried eating what was inside! Some of us enjoyed it but most said it wasn't very tasty!
We've also painted the wall in our new deconstructed role-play area with chalkboard paint, so it's finally ok to write on the walls!
Date: 2nd Mar 2020 @ 4:04pm
We've been making playdough this morning with Mrs Bloxham. We used loads of different things to change the colour and smell of it! Can you make some at home?
Date: 26th Feb 2020 @ 3:58pm
In Reception we've been reading the story 'Attack of the Cheeseburgers'! Our favourite part was near the end when the rain came and melted all the burgers. But we didn't think that was possible! So today we got some burgers and poured some 'rain' (tap water because it was our first dry day in weeks!!) on them to see what would happen! Do you think they melted?
Nope! But did the buns did go soggy and fall apart. So if you are being chased by some giant cheeseburgers, running in to the rain might just save you!
Date: 25th Feb 2020 @ 4:23pm
We've really enjoyed making pancakes with the children in FS today! We read the instructions, got all the ingredients ready and off we went! They were really tasty!
Date: 24th Feb 2020 @ 8:33am
Thank you to everyone who has sent in some big boxes for us (we can always use more REALLY BIG ONES!). We've changed our home corner so that the children are just using boxes and other resources to make the things they need for the their role play! On Friday they were pretending to be pirates, using the boxes as boats and making swords and outfits! Who knows what they will choose to play as today!
Date: 31st Jan 2020 @ 11:30am
We've been performing lots of different experiments, from the fun mentos and coke, to seeing what melts the ice the fastest! Ask us about the amazing "jumping colours" as well!
