World Religion Day

Today, the children have participated in an assembly all about World Religion Day.

They have listened to some Learning Clips about different religions across the world.

Then, we talked about the similarities in the religions - with love and care being a central theme to all religions. 

Mindfulness in Year 3

In our assembly time today we discussed all about mindfulness - living in the moment and how to try and not worry about the future or the past.

Then, we tried out some mindfulness exercises - Rainbow Relaxtion.

The Christmas Story ... Knock Knock

Today, Reverend Chris came to re-tell The Christmas Story to the children.

He re-told the story in the form of 'Knock Knock' - and he acted out all the characters in the story.  All the children found it entertaining and it certainly was a different way to re-tell the Christmas Story.

His assembly was finished with a prayer of reflection. 

Y3 Language Detectives!

Our Y3 class have been doing really well in developing their French language skills! Here they are sharing the instructions song they have learned this week. 

Inter Faith Week Assembly

Today, Years 1 to 6 have participated in Inter Faith Week Assembly.

Inter Faith Week occurs every November (for 8 days following Rememberance Sunday).  The children have thought and reflected on:-

* Friendships amongst different faiths - what this means and how they could be a better friend.

* Social and Community Action Projects - the children watched a video about the creation of the Watford Peace Garden.

In conjuction with the Rights Respecting Team and Miss Evans, the children have been asked to think about:-

What could we do as a school to make to make our community a better place for people of all faiths and religions?

The children have been asked to send their ideas to Miss Evans and the RRS Team before Monday 11th December, 2023.


Y3 and Y4 Diversity Education Workshop

Stone Age Art - Part 2

Today, we have been experimenting with a range of techniques to create natural paints.

We have then added details to our Cave Walls (that we created in the previous lesson).

Finally, we added colour to our Cave Wall paintings.

Stone Age Art - Part 1

This afternoon, Year 3 have been on a nature walk to collect natural materials for our Stone Age Art - just like people from the Stone Age would have done.

Then, we practised our art skills - seeing what colours these natural materials would make.

Also, we used lentils and pulses to create our cave wall backgrounds - ready for our final pieces next week.

It was fun ... if a little messy! 

Science - The Layers of the Earth

Today, in Year 3, we have had lots of fun ... making a dirt pudding to represent the different layers of the Earth.

Ginger Biscuit - for the top soil
Chocolate Mousse - for the sub soil
Apple - for the bedrock
Orea Biscuit - for the Earth's crust
Strawberry Sauce - for the mantle

It was super and the best part was getting to eat the pudding once we had made it! 

Unit: What is it like to play in a band?

In Year 3, we have been thinking about : What is it like to play in a band?

We have listened to a range of music including:-

Disco - Love What We Do
Jazz - Oh When The Saints Go Marchin' In
Folk - My Bonnie Lies Over The Ocean

We have learned to sing these songs and then we have used the glockenspiels to show our musical talents.

It has been fun performing these songs. 

Y3 Photography workshop

During Arts Week, Y3 enjoyed a photography workshop with Henry Iddon. They had the opportunity to think about something they want to achieve - they then made a plan, took photographs, printed the images and added extra details using sharpies! 

Y3 Food: Vegetable Tarts

This term, Y3 have found out about seasonal vegetables in the UK and chosen which ones to include in a vegetable tart design. They have improved their peeling, slicing and cutting technique to make their finished products.

Y3 Textiles: Cross stitch and applique

Y3 have enjoyed designing and making their own bookmarks in Design Technology this term. They have used running stitch to attached their applique design and cross stitch to enhance the appearance of their finished product. 

Y3 - The Joe Wicks Challenge

As part of our Sports Week - the Year 3 children have been watching some of Joe Wick's (The Body Coach) videos.

We have then discussed the importance of being healthy and having a fitness routine.

Today, we worked in teams to create our own Joe Wick's style routines and shared them with the rest of our class.

It was fun - but the exercises were tricky - especially in the heat!

School Nurse Visit to Y3

Today, we have been visited by the school nurse to help us learn a little more about our Learning Question:-

Why should we eat well and look after our teeth?

We learned all about the differnt types of teeth, when our baby teeth start to come out and the importance of a healthy diet for our teeth.

We also got to practise how to brush our teeth correctly - using a large scale model of a set of teeth. 

It was fun!

 

 

Reading Ambassador Meeting

Our Scholastic book fair raised £381.11 for school.  We can now use this money to buy some new books for our school library.  Our reading ambassadors asked their classes about the types of books that they would like.  During our meeting today we shared ideas, searched the Scholastic website to find exciting, new books and completed an order form. 

We look forward to reading the new books once they arrive.

Y3 Science Investigation: Does the length of your arm/leg affect how far you can jump and throw?

This half term, Year 3 have been learning about why we have a skeleton and the names of the bones in our bodies. We were asked to investigate the following questions:

*Do people with longer legs jump further?

*Can people with longer arms throw further? 

We worked in small groups to plan and carry out our investigation. Next week we will be using a spreadsheet on Purple Mash to create a graph of our results and then writing our conclusion in an email to Mr. Leather (our PE Leader).

Performance Poetry in Year 3

This week, Year 3 have learned the poem 'Onomatopoeia' by Joseph Coelho. They have investigated rhyme and onomatopoeic words and used them to write their own version of the poem in pairs. Watch their super performances!

Tom Palmer visit

Tom Palmer visited Lyme today. 

Tom is an award winning author and has sold over half a million books.  He met with Year 5 and 6 today to answer their questions and tell them all about how he became an author.  Tom even did a book signing session and lots of children have started to read his books already. 

Thank you Tom for inspiring us to read and write our own stories. 

 

 

World Book Day in Year 3

We have all really enjoyed World Book Day in Year 3! Using the words we dressed up as, we designed the front cover of our own book. We have also listened to different authors reading stories and talked about our favourite books.

Y3: French Carnival

This week in French, Year 3 have used their learning from last half term to talk about the French nouns for different animals. Then they made animal masks as part of developing their understanding of French traditions, such as carnivals.
