Y1 have been thinking about how to stay safe online this week. From our Purple Mash computing learning we already know how important it is to not share our passwords with anyone apart from a trusted adult. In our lesson on Safer Internet Day we thought about what else is safe to share online and what should stay private and be kept offline. Then we thought about different scenarios and talked about how we would feel and what we would do in these situations. To finish off, we used all our knolwedge to create a list of ingredients to help Digiduck from our assembly to make 'A Kinder Internet' spell.

Year 5 Football Tournament
Today, year 5 and two pupils from year 4 participated in a football tournament. The children were respectful, showed good sportsmanship, manners and displayed plenty of footballing talent. After only losing one match in the group stages, we progressed to the semi-finals. We won the semi-final match after a fantastic goal from Nathan. Unfortunately, the final didn't go the same way and the children finished in second place! However, the children should be so proud of themselves after a fantastic effort all afternoon.
Coming second out of sixteen other schools is something to be extremely proud of!

We are taking care of him in Year 1 - until we can send a message to his parents - but first of all we have to learn all about The United Kingdom so we can tell his parents where to find him.

We have taken part in a 'germ experiment' to understand how germs spread - especially if we do not wash our hands.
Some of the children said:-
* Germs can make you sick.
* Germs can make you ill.
We now understand how easily germs spread and why it is important to wash our hands.

We have learned lots of different skills in art this half term: using a variety of media (pens, pencils, paints, pastels) and skills (drawing, painting, colour mixing and printing. We have also looked at the work of the artist Louis Wain and thought about what it would be like if we 'jumped' into a piece of his work - we used the FANTASTICS to talk about what we would be able to see, hear, touch and feel; we then predicted what might happen next.

The Eco Action Team have been very busy over the past few weeks. Along with Mr Brooks, they have built some planters using old pallets and filled them wirth compost and bulbs ready for the Spring. The crocus bulbs were given to school by the Rotary Club as part of their campaign to eradicate polio across the world.
The original planters were very overgrown and were in need to of a tidy up - they have weeded them ready for the Spring.
They have also carried out a litter pick on the field - especially after all the windy weather we have had recently.

The children were very skilled in their marking and cutting skills to make the slits for their mechanisms and could talk about why they had used each one.
To test out their design criteria, Y1 shared their books with some of the children in Early Years - they really enjoyed them!

Year 1 have enjoyed a fun-filled week, learning a variety of different art skills and techniques.
We used the work of Beatriz Milhazes as a stimulus, using circle shapes to create an abstract composition in pairs.
Then we explored different kinds of lines - wavy, vertical, horizontal and cross hatch. Using the work of Bridget Riley, we created our own line composition on black card using chalks - piecing them together as a class composition.
In our next lesson we used our line drawing skills to create a collaborative piece of art with an underwater theme, inspired by the work of David Hockney and Vija Celmins. We experimented with a variety of materials - chalks, oil pastel, cryaons, coloured pencils and felt tip pens.
At the end of the week, we did a colour mixing investigation - making primary and secondary colours using play dough and paint. Using our knowledge of colour, we then created some art work based on a study of the artist Jasper Johns.
We have some very talented artists in our Year 1 class and have been impressed at how well they have all worked together to make their compositions!
