World Book Day - Saints Visit

As part of World Book Day, we have been visited by two Saints players (Alfie Sinclair and Ciaran Nolan).

We had the opportunity to ask them questions about 'reading' and 'rugby'.

They told us they like to read a little every day as it helps them to relax.

NUMBER DAY

A marvellous, mathematical time was had by all across the school today as we exhibited our 'Crazy Rockstar' hairstyles all in aid of an amazing cause; the NSPCC. The children looked FABULOUS and had obviously put a lot of effort into creating their styles. They also took part in many maths related games and activities as well as a national times table competition on Times Table Rockstars.

Our newly appointed maths ambassadors treated us to an assembly with some fun competitions.

Thank you everyone for your support - we raised £140 for the NSPCC. 

National Storytelling Week

Date: 5th Feb 2025 @ 4:30pm

This week is National Storytelling week and our Reading Ambassadors have been very busy visiting classes to share a love of stories and storytelling. 

In a special assembly we spoke about stories that have passages into magical worlds and characters that have special superpowers.  Our Reading Ambassadors hope to inspire children to take part in our REIMAGINE YOUR WORLD competition which is the theme for National Storytelling Week this year.  

 

Magnets in Y3

Today, year 3 conducted an experiment to find out which magnet was the strongest.  This was great fun and we were amazed that one of the magnets could hold a chain of 81 paper clips. 

We went on to explore magnetic and non magnetic materials and recorded our findings in a practical venn diagram. 

We even made a piece of string stand up in the air (like magic) using a magnetic force! 

 

 

World Religion Day

Today, our assembly was all about 'World Religion Day'.

World Religion Day is celebrated annually on the third Sunday in January - so this year it was on Sunday 19th January 2025.

The aim of World Religion Day is to promote peace and understanding amongst all the the different faiths of the world.

During the assembly, we watched a video all about World Religion Day and listened to song all about tolerance - helping us to understand how we need to share respect and tolerance to all people no matter of their religion.

Then, two students Kai in Y5 and Mikaeel in Y6 shared why their religions are important to them.

Y3 and Y4 Cross Stitch Club

Some members of Y3 and Y4 have participated in Cross Stitch Club this half term.

They have learned some new skills and all the children enjoyed the club.

Their final piece was a Christmas Tree design. 

Harvest Festival

Today, Reverend Chris came into school to lead an assembly - all about Harvest Festival.

We have also collected items as part of our Harvest Festival - these donations will be delivered to our local foodbank so that people in our community can benefit.

Y3 DT ... Cooking

Today, we have been making Seasonal Vegetable Tarts - as part of our DT learning.

We have designed and made our own vegetable tarts - using vegetables that are available in Summer. 

EF92 Football Academy

This afternoon, Y3 have enjoyed a football taster session with Conor from EF92 Academy.

We played a match against each other - it was fun!

Y3 - Rounders

In our PE lessons this half term, we have been learning how to play rounders.

We have developed our skills in throwing and catching a ball.  

We have also worked as a team to play a rounders game. 

Y3 Euro Day

Y3 participated in a European Themed Day to celebrate the beginning of Euro 2024 and our MFL Curriculum.

It was a busy and fun day - learning about a range of European countries.

 

Y3 Sports Day

Y3 enjoyed their Sports Day taking part in a variety of activities including:-

Egg and Spoon Race
Javelin
Sprint Race
Standing Long Jump
Bean Bag Throw

They all worked co-operatively in their house teams - cheering each other on.

Lunch Time Art Club

Y3 have created some silhouette art with a water coloured background and black acrylic. They have really enjoyed these sessions. 

Why should we eat well and look after our teeth?

Today, Y3 have had a visit from our School Nurse (Carol) and the Health Nurse (Helen).

They visited us to help us with our Learning Question : Why should we eat well and look after our teeth?

We learnt all about brushing your teeth correctly - and we got to use the model teeth and toothbrushes.

We talked about sugar and how it gives us energy - but then we found out you should not have more than 6 sugar cubes per day.  Also, some drinks have too much sugar and caffeine in them.  We investigated the sugar content in some popular drinks. 

Y3 Roman Forts

As part of our DT Learning - Y3 have designed and made their own Roman Forts.

We had to use certain design features - such as towers / turrets / battlements and a drawbridge.

The children also made 3D shapes - using nets to create some of their towers / turrets.

Y3 Rights Respecting - Article 23

Today, we have been learning about Article 23 ... You have the right to special education and care if you have a disability.

We have talked about having a disability, what being neurodiverse means and listened to the story: Mrs Gorski - I Think I Have The Wiggle Fidgets.

Also, we have learned some sign language and been able to use 'finger spelling' to spell our own names.

Y3 - The Romans - Class Assembly

Today, Year 3 performed their Class Assembly all about The Romans.

They sang songs - including:

The Road Building Song
Song of a Slave

All the children spoke their lines beautifully - it was a lovely performance - as they told their parents all about life in Roman times. 

ARTICLE OF THE MONTH

Another fantastic 'Article of the Month' assembly delivered by our Rights Respecting Team. This month's article is 'Article 23 -  A child with a disability has the right to live a full and decent life with dignity and, as far as possible, independence'. The ambassadors did an amazing job of educating our school and introducing this month's activities. 

World Book Day in Y3

Alfie won the class prize for his costume ... Cat in the Hat - and he won the golden ticket to visit the Starbooks Cafe.

Phoebe won the prize for Tabby Cat from The Worst Witch.

Well done to everyone in Year 3. 

 

 

Y3 Roman Chester

Y3 have had a wonderful time today on our class trip to Roman Chester.

It was a culmination of all our History Learning : What did the Romans do for us?

The children were Roman Soldiers - marching around the streets of Chester.  They visited The Ampitheatre and the Roman Gardens.

Then, they got to learn all about how Romans invaded Britain and Roman Life in Britain.

It was a great day and the children were very knowledgeable about life in Roman times.
